What does a neutral third-party observer actually do?
We are present, we observe, and we document. We are not a peace officer or a security guard. We do not take sides or advocate for either party. We provide a calm, professional presence and an accurate, defensible record of what occurred.
Can you enforce a custody or visitation order?
No. We cannot enforce court orders or resolve custody disputes. We observe and document what occurs. If an order is not followed, that documentation can support later action through the appropriate legal channels — but we do not intervene in the moment.
Are civil standbys the same as police standbys?
No. Police civil standbys involve law enforcement. We are a private, civilian presence — useful when parties want a neutral witness without involving law enforcement, or in addition to a police standby when extra documentation is wanted.
Will you intervene if a conflict starts?
We do not physically intervene or act as security. Our role is to observe and document. If safety becomes an immediate concern, we will call 911 and document what occurs.
Can you serve as a witness later?
Yes. A written report is always provided. We may also be available to provide a sworn statement or testimony about what we observed, subject to scope and scheduling.
